Sylvie Ringer focuses on landscape and states of consciousness by looking to the natural world as a mirror, within a practice that includes drawing, artist books, and room-size installations.
Natural elements, landscapes are the source of our first metaphors and similes and act as stakeholders for the human conditions in Sylvie’s work. Figurative and abstract shapes, scenes, and objects on papers together form an associative narration, a topic that Sylvie is very interested in and which plays out in her concept and creation of artist books as well as installations.
For exhibits, she combines the drawings and paintings with arrangements of burnt wood, rocks, sticks, and other thematically relevant objects to form an atmospheric space. She is interested in collaborations that add different media aiming to create a similar, strong atmospheric experience.
A big part of her practice includes spending time in places that resonate or spark interest and specifically working on-site to investigate how certain surroundings, atmospheres find their way into her work, which is often thought in series and follow narrative strings throughout the process.
She works on paper and canvas using crayons, charcoals, ink, pigments, and oil paints.
